How Much Do Private Braces Cost?

Whilst teeth straightening used to be mostly associated with older children and teenagers, today, increasing numbers of adults are seeking orthodontic treatment for straighter teeth that they can feel confident in for the rest of their life. In fact, adults now account for a large percentage of all orthodontic patients. With developing orthodontic technologies, along with the availability of private orthodontic care, braces are an attractive option for many. But how much do private braces cost?

If you are an adult and feel like orthodontic treatment would benefit you, explore some of the braces available privately.

Fixed Braces

Fixed braces are the most recognisable type of orthodontic appliance, also known as ‘train track’ braces. To straighten the teeth over time, brackets are fixed to the front of teeth and an archwire is inserted through the brackets and fastened into place. The wire is tightened periodically over time to help move teeth into the intended alignment. Fixed orthodontics provide an effective teeth straightening treatment for a wide range of teeth alignment problems.

There are a number of different types of fixed braces available, including:

Metal braces

Metal braces are the most common fixed brace, with the wire held in place by elastic bands. These elastic bands can be chosen in a range of colours to suit each individual.

Gold brackets

For adults who don’t like the appearance of traditional metal braces, it is possible to choose gold brackets and wires for an alternative appearance.

Ceramic braces

If you are looking for a more discreet fixed brace solution, ceramic braces may be the ideal choices. Metal brackets are replaced by clear or tooth coloured brackets, helping them to blend in with the teeth they are fixed to.

Self ligating braces

Self ligating braces are the most modern fixed brace alternative. Rather than elastic bands to hold the wire in place, the brackets feature metal clips that tie around the archwire. Self ligating brackets are increasingly popular as they are designed to be more comfortable, and to reduce treatment times as there is not a need for archwires to be tightened at every appointment.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are a recent advancement in orthodontic treatment. Like traditional braces, the brackets are fixed to the teeth, however, rather than being placed at the front of the teeth, they are fixed at the back, out of sight. Like traditional fixed braces, lingual braces are effective in treating a wide range of alignment issues.

Invisalign Braces

Unlike fixed braces, Invisalign braces can be removed from the teeth at meal times and in order to carry out important oral hygiene routines including brushing and flossing. As well as being removable and easy to use, Invisalign are also practically invisible. Made from wafer thin, medical grade plastic, Invisalign clear aligners fit perfectly over the teeth.

A series of aligners are provided to gently move the teeth into the correct alignment over time. Each set of aligners are worn for around two weeks, before switching to the next set.

Whilst Invisalign braces are discreet and convenient, they are best suited for minor alignment issues and cosmetic teeth straightening.
